The Genius of Don Cornelius (1936-2012)

The great host of “Soul Train,” Donald Cortez “Don” Cornelius passed away today at the age of 75.

News Sources have confirmed that Don Cornelius was pronounced dead this morning after police found him in his car with a self-inflicted gun shot wound. A few sources are citing an apparent suicide, but the investigation is still ongoing. 

While I knew he was was suffering from health issues, it comes as a complete shock that he would shoot himself. It makes you wonder what was possibly going through his mind..was the pain of being sick too much for him? Our hearts are definitely filled with sympathy for his family during this time.

As we move into Black History Month, I know I’ll be thinking about his contribution to black culture in America. Soul Train was at the forefront of giving our culture and music a platform. He’ll forever be remembered by the popular catchphrase “Love, Peace, and Soul!”
